76945-costume-since-antiquity: Egyptian Coptic Tunic-  this style is known since the Ancient Egyptian times,it is constucted of a rectangular piece of fabric that is twice the height of the wearer, sewn on the sides, and leaving two openings, one on each side for the arms, albeit,decoration and   fabric in the  Coptic style was not known then- Coptic tunics “often have stylized humans or animals and geometric designs, such as octagons or interlacing near their hem or running their entire length.” These are the ways in which these kinds of decorated bands and areas were arrayed on Coptic textiles. Note the pattern that s made up of a single fabric on the loom that has the shape of the cross, with the height of the garment also done twice as long as the tunic, the it is folded over at the assumed shoulder line and sewn at the sides of the cross to shape the sleeves and sides of the tunic, leaving openings for the arms and hem.
